Can Hot dogs Up Diabetes, Heart Disease Odds? Yep!

Do you like to down a hot dog or two at ball games adn backyard BBQs? Wellm next time the mood strikes, remember this: A new study suggests that processed meats (hot dogs, bacon, salami, sausage and deli meats) may raise your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease. The suspected culprits? The large amount of salt and nitrate preservatives in them (they contain about 4 times as much salt and 50% more nitrate preservatives than unprocessed meats).
A Harvard study found that each 50 gram daily serviing of processsed meat (one to two slices of deli meat or one hot dog) is linked to a 42% higher risk of heart disease and a 19% higher risk of diabetes.
